The Allow Download permission in DMIx controls whether an item or its contents can be downloaded and saved locally. When enabled, users can store the object on their device and use it in third-party applications, ensuring flexibility in digital workflows.
Object Level
Collection Level
Download icon deactivated (light): Download not restricted.
Download icon activated (dark): Download restricted.
Download Icon and Restrictions
- The download icon on the right determines if downloading is allowed in general.
- Ideally, if downloading is not allowed, the dropdown should be locked to prevent selection.
- If downloading is allowed, users can define specific restrictions through the dropdown menu.
Download Restriction Options:
Download restriction options are available both on object and collection level in the “Edit” menu.
- None: No restrictions – all users, including external users through Active Company Share, can download this item.
- Company: Only internal users (within the same company) can download the item; external users cannot.
How It Works:
- If the download icon is inactive, downloading is completely disabled, and no restrictions can be set.
- If the download icon is active, the user can choose between “None” or “Company” to define who can download the content.
Object vs. Collection Download Permissions:
- For Individual Objects: If enabled, the object can be downloaded, saved locally, and used in external applications.
- For Collections: The permission only applies to the objects within the collection—the collection itself cannot be downloaded as a whole.
Use Cases for Allow Download
- Enabling open access to approved assets by setting “None”.
- Restricting downloads to internal teams by selecting “Company”.
- Preventing downloads entirely by leaving the download icon inactive.
