In the DMIx system, "homeless" articles refer to items that are not assigned to any collection. These articles exist within the platform but do not have a designated organizational structure under a specific collection.
Since "homeless" articles are not categorized, they can be difficult to locate without using the correct filtering options in the Advanced Search.
Why Do Articles Become "Homeless"?
Articles can become "homeless" due to several reasons, including:
A newly created or imported article has not yet been assigned to a collection.
Changes in collection structures caused certain articles to lose their assigned collection.
Manually removed from a collection but not reassigned.
Synchronization or data import issues from external sources left the article unclassified.
Since homeless articles are not part of a structured collection, they will not appear when filtering for specific companies or collections—unless explicitly included in the search criteria.
How to Filter for "Homeless" Articles in Advanced Search
The Advanced Search provides an option to specifically filter for homeless articles, making it easier to find and organize them.
Method 1: Using the Collection Filter
Open the Advanced Search.
Navigate to the Collection Filter.
Click on the “Homeless” filter option.
Click “Apply” to display all homeless articles.
This method will only show articles that are not assigned to any collection.
Method 2: Combining with Additional Search Criteria
Users can refine their homeless article search by combining filters:
Search Term + Homeless Filter → Example: Searching for ‘blue’ with the Homeless filter enabled will return only homeless articles that contain "blue" in the name or description.
PaX Masterdata Filter + Homeless Filter → Allows users to find unassigned articles based on specific material attributes.
Color Filter + Homeless Filter → Narrow down unassigned articles based on specific color criteria, material, composition and so on.
Important: The Homeless filter must be applied first before adding additional refinements, as standard collection-based searches will exclude homeless articles by default.
Best Practices for Managing Homeless Articles
Regularly check for homeless articles to ensure all data is properly categorized.
Use the Homeless filter in combination with other criteria to efficiently locate and reassign misplaced articles.
Assign found articles to collections to maintain an organized database and prevent issues with missing data in workflows.
By utilizing the Homeless filter correctly in Advanced Search, users can easily locate, review, and organize unassigned articles, ensuring that no important data remains unstructured.
