Scanning Workflow

The scanning workflow outlines the steps required to digitize materials accurately using the DMIx SamplR. Follow these instructions to ensure high-quality scans and seamless integration into your workflow.

 

Preparing for a Scan

1. Verify the Scanner Setup:

• Ensure the SamplR unit is correctly positioned and powered.
• Confirm that the iPhone is securely connected and aligned with the SamplR Phone Adapter.

2. Prepare the Material:

• Follow the guidelines in the Preparing Materials section.

• Ensure the material is clean, wrinkle-free, and free of dust. 

3. Open the DMIx SamplR App:

• Launch the app on your iPhone and log in.
• Confirm that the scanner is connected and ready.

Placing the Material

1. Open the Visor:

• Open the scanner visor fully to allow sufficient ambient lighting for focusing.

2. Position the Material:

• Lay the material flat inside the scanner, ensuring it is fully within the scanning area.
• For smaller samples, use magnets to secure the material in place to prevent movement during scanning.

3. Adjust the Material:

• Align the material to ensure it is centered and oriented correctly within the scanner.
• Utilize the guideline option for easier material placement.

Adjusting Focus

1. Use the Focus Slider:

By default, the slider is set to capture a sharp picture of a standard basic flat fabric. In case you would like to scan thinner or thicker materials, an adjustment is required.

• Use the focus adjustment slider within the app to ensure the material is sharp and clear.

Initiating the Scan

1. Close the Visor:

• Close the scanner visor completely to block external light interference.

2. Start the Scan:

• Tap the capture button in the app to begin the scanning process.

3. During Scanning:

• The iPhone will capture multiple images of the material.
• A processing sign will appear on the iPhone display during this phase to indicate the scan is in progress.
• Do not move the scanner, lean on it or remove the iPhone while scanning.

4. Scanning Duration:

• The scanning process will be visualized by a progress bar.
• Once the scan is completed and the capture view is visible on the iPhone display, you can directly proceed with a new scan. There is no need to wait to process the next scan.
• If the “Behaviour Video” Option is enabled, the user will be prompted to record a behavior video. Please follow the instructions on screen.

 

Reprocessing and Uploading

1. Automatic Upload:

• Once the scan is complete, it is automatically uploaded to the DMIx platform and placed in the user’s Inbox in the cloud.
• On the “Your Scan” tab, you can see a small preview image of the scanned material including the current progress of the material.
• Once the material is successful uploaded to your Inbox, it will automatically be deleted from your iPhone to free up storage space. Auto delete can be disabled on the settings page.

2. Further Review:

• Any detailed inspection or use of the scanned material will be done directly on the DMIx platform after the upload is completed.
