What is an ICC Profile?
An ICC profile (International Color Consortium profile) is a standardized file format used to describe how colors should appear on various devices, such as monitors, printers, and cameras. ICC profiles help ensure consistent color reproduction across different devices and platforms by providing a color management system that adjusts colors based on each device's characteristics.
For example, a monitor and a printer display colors differently. The ICC profile helps translate colors from one device to another accurately, so what you see on your screen closely matches the printed output.
ICC Profile for EIZO Screen Users:
If you're using an EIZO screen, follow this link How to calibrate my EIZO Screen? to create an ICC profile.
Once you've created your EIZO ICC profile:
- Log in to your DMIX account.
- Click My Account.
- Click Upload ICC Profile.
- Select and upload the profile you created.
ICC Profile for Non-Calibrated Screens:
If you don't have a calibrated screen, it's best to use the Standard RGB (sRGB) profile. Most monitors can’t display color profiles larger than sRGB. Choosing a wider color range, like Adobe RGB, might make colors look too saturated.
Here’s a simple breakdown of the two color profiles:
- sRGB: The standard profile used for most websites, games, apps, and personal devices. It’s widely supported and works with most screens.
- Adobe RGB: This profile covers a wider range of colors (about 35% more than sRGB). However, most monitors can’t fully display Adobe RGB colors, leading to less accurate visuals.
