There are different ways to maintain master data for an object, and the best option depends on your specific use case. If you want to update data for a single object, it is recommended to enter the data directly on the PAX Server. However, if you need to upload data for multiple objects at once, it is better to use the Excel upload functionality.
Recommendation:
If you need to maintain more than 20 data sets at the same time, it is recommended to use the Excel upload functionality.
Blank Excel Upload Sheet
To get a blank Excel template for entering data that can later be uploaded, follow these steps:
- Log in to PaX.
- On the PaX Dashboard entry screen, select the menu option “Download Template.”
- Name the Excel sheet and save it locally on your computer.
Entering Data
There are two ways to enter data into the Excel template:
- Manual data entry by the user.
- Automated data generation from a source system (e.g., third-party ERP or PLM system).
For more details, see the chapter "Excel Upload Template."
Uploading the Excel Template
Once you have filled in the Excel upload sheet with data, follow these steps to upload it to the PaX server:
- Log in to PaX.
- On the PaX Dashboard entry screen, select the menu option “Import Data.”
- A new dialog will open.
- Upload the Excel template from your local storage.
- Click “Import Data.”
If there are syntax errors in your data sheet, the system will stop the upload and display a detailed error message. Correct the errors in your data sheet and restart the upload process.
Important Additional Information
- All data entries on the entries sheet that are not assigned by an ID must exactly match the predefined values. It is helpful to use our selection lists while entering data. For assistance, contact support@colordigital.com.
- The initial data link is based on matching the name of the object in the DMIx Company Account. If there is already an object in your DMIx Company Account with the master data, make sure the name of the object in your DMIx Company Account is entered in the same format in the Excel sheet column.
- The IDs you assign in the data entries sheet are set as foreign keys, creating a permanent link between the object and its master data. Therefore, every ID must be unique and must not be duplicated.
