Important Terms to Know
Generally, for the connection process of the object in your DMIx Company Account and the master data from your PaX Company Server, the following terms are important.
CustomerID (name of field on PaX Server) = PaX Foreign Key (name of field in DMIx Company Acccount) = ID (Name of the column in the Excel upload sheet)
All terms describe the same thing:
These are the names for the link between objects and their data but have different names for the different systems.
Linking Digital Objects Between the PaX Server and DMIx Company Account
Since the PaX server and DMIx Company Account operate on separate infrastructures, digital objects in the DMIx Company Account must be linked to the corresponding master data on the PaX server.
By default, the linking process is based on material names. The object name in the DMIx Company Account must exactly match the corresponding master data name on the PaX server, including case sensitivity, for the link to be established.
After uploading your objects to the DMIx Company Account and the master data to the PaX server, an initial link must be created. During synchronization, the PaX server searches the DMIx Company Account for objects with matching names. When an exact match is found, a foreign key is created, establishing a permanent link between the two.
Once the initial synchronization by name is complete, you can change the object’s name if needed. The master data will still be linked to the object via the foreign key, regardless of any name changes.
Example - View in DMIx Company Account in Edit Object Detail View:
Name of Object: SHIRT_SCAN_02
PaX Foreign Key: 40
Example - View in PaX Object Master Data Detail View:
Product Name: SHIRT_SCAN_02
Customer ID: 40
In this example, the initial synchronization occurred using the exact same name SHIRT_SCAN_02 (Name = Product Name) for both the object and the master data. Now, the object and master data are linked through the Foreign Key 40 = CustomerID 40. From now onwards, the name of the object can be edited but the object and master data stays connected through the Foreign Key.
Preventing Accidental Unlinking of Object and Master Data
To prevent accidentally unlinking an object from its master data, you can lock the PaX attributes at the object level. To do this, enable the checkbox in the object edit detail view. The PaX attributes will be grayed out and cannot be deleted by mistake.
This feature also prevents the deletion of the foreign key through the "Foreign Key Reset" function, which can be performed by the Company Admin.
Unlinking Object and Master Data
If you need to break the connection between an object and its master data, you can do so by deleting the foreign key from the object in the DMIx Company Account. This can be done for a single object.
Your Company Admin can disconnect all objects at once using the "Foreign Key Reset" option in the company PaX settings.
When this feature is used, an automated process will delete all foreign keys from all objects within the DMIx Company Account, breaking the connection to the master data on the PaX server. This action cannot be undone. Therefore, we recommend contacting our support team at support@colordigital.com before proceeding.
