Calibration EPSON Perfection V850 Pro Scanner

If you are using an EPSON Perfection V850 Pro Scanner, we describe in the article below how to calibrate the Epson scanner for the best possible scan results in terms of color. If you have any further questions about the device, please contact EPSON customer support.

To get the best quality scans, you need to calibrate your Epson Perfection V850 Pro scanner before using it. Calibration ensures that your scans match the original colors as closely as possible. Without calibration, two scanners of the same model might produce different results, and the colors in your scans could look very different from the actual material.

While the scanner won't be as precise as a professional color measuring device, calibrating it will give you much better overall results. To fine-tune your scans even further, it is recommended to use our 3D-Magic-Tool. For further information, please refer to the Chapter “3D Magic”.

What You’ll Need:

• Epson Perfection V850 Pro Scanner
• Epson Scan 2 Software (available on the Epson website) Epson Perfection V850 Photo Support | Epson Deutschland
• IT8.7 Test Chart (this may come with your scanner, or you may need to purchase it)

Steps to Calibrate:

1.Download the Epson Scan 2 Software:

• Visit Epson’s website to download the latest version of the Epson Scan 2 software. Make sure to select the correct model based on your country.

 2. Prepare the IT8.7 Test Chart:

• This physical test chart is used to calibrate the scanner. If it didn’t come with your scanner, you'll need to purchase one. If you need help finding the chart, feel free to contact us at [e-mail].3. Install the EPSON Scan 2 Software ,start the application and adjust the settings as below:Your scanner is now set up for scanning the IT8.7 Test chart.

4. Scan the test chart. Place the IT8.7 test chart on your scanner and use the original scanner cover (not the DMIx cover). Make sure you're scanning the gray test chart correctly.

5. Send the Scan to Us:

• Once scanned, send the test chart TIFF file scan to [e-mail]. We’ll create a custom ICC/ ICM profile for you and send it back.

If your file looks like below please re-scan it and make sure you follow all our instructions.

6. Once you receive your ICC/ICM profile from us, follow these steps to add it to your computer:

For Windows Users:

• Go to this folder on your computer:
  C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color
• Add the ICM file you received to this folder.

For Mac Users:

• Go to this folder on your Mac:
  Macintosh\Library\ColorSync\Profiles
• Add the profile file here.

Adding the Profile to the EPSON Scan Software:

1. Open Epson Scan 2 and go to the Color Management settings.

2. You will see a window like this:

3. In the Color Management section:

• For Color Management, select ICM.
• For Source (Scanner), choose the profile you created.
• For Target, select AdobeRGB.       

4. Click OK to save.

Ready to Scan

Now, you're all set to scan your materials. The settings you just made will be saved, so you don't need to adjust them every time you open the software.
